皆さん、北朝鮮ではクリスチャンであること、聖書を持つことさえも禁止されていることを知っていましたか？
今では信じられない話かもしれませんが、北朝鮮ではかつて、キリスト教が栄えていた時代がありました。
1907年に平壌で起こったリバイバルの後、１％未満だったクリスチャン人口が29％まで増えたんです。
ソン・ヤンウォンという牧師が、韓国におけるキリスト教のキーパーソンでした
ソン牧師には2人の息子がいました。彼らは敬虔なクリスチャンとして知られ、アメリカの大学に行く準備をしていました。
ですが、朝鮮戦争が始まってしまい、２人の息子は共産主義者の暴徒に捕らえられてしまいました。
この２人の息子は自分を捉えた暴徒に対し福音を語り、イエスを信じるよう促しました。
ですが、この２人は信仰を捨てることを拒んだため、最後には銃で撃たれ殺されてしまいました。
韓国政府は最終的にこの反乱を鎮圧し、息子達を殺した共産主義の暴徒は処刑されました。
その後に起こった事、これは韓国の国民にとても大きな衝撃を与えました。
ソン牧師は2人の息子を殺した暴徒を処刑から免れるよう求めただけでなく、その暴徒の息子を自分の養子として迎えたいと言ったんです。
ソン牧師が息子達のお葬式で祈った祈りを聞いてください。
神様、福音を伝えている最中に射殺された息子たちの殉教を感謝します。アメリカに留学する準備をしていた息子達ですが、今はアメリカよりもずっと良い場所にいるので、私の心に平安があることに感謝です。父なる神よ、息子たちの殉教によって実る、数え切れないほどの天の息子が増えることを感謝します
この息子達のお葬式からわずか数年後の1949年に、ソン牧師自身も信仰のために共産主義者に殺されました。
ソン牧師が、息子の殉教を神に感謝できたのはなぜでしょうか？
そして２人の息子達は、イエスへの信仰を捨てることよりも、なぜ死を選んだのでしょうか？
その答えは、今日の聖書箇所であるヨハネの福音書12章にあります。
ヨハネの福音書12章は、イエスがロバに乗ってエルサレムに入られ、大勢の群衆に迎えられた部分について書かれています。
群衆の多くが、イエスこそ待ち望んでいた救世主であるメシアであり、旧約聖書に何百年も前から預言されていたイスラエルの王であると信じていました。
イエスは待ち望まれた王でしたが、期待とは違いました。
今日のメインポイントです： この世に死に、王であるイエスのために生きるとき、私たちは真のいのちを見いだすです。
ソン牧師と彼の2人の息子達は、イエスのために生きていました。今日は、皆さんにもそうするよう説得できればと思います。
イエスとはどんな王様でしょうか？イエスのために生きる必要がなぜあるんでしょうか？
ヨハネの福音書12章で、答えを3つ見つけてみましょう。
始めに、イエスはすべての国の王である（12節-22節）。
12節でヨハネはこのように書いています：その翌日、祭りに来ていた大勢の群衆は、イエスがエルサレムに来られると聞いて、なつめ椰子の枝を持って迎えに出て行き、こう叫んだ。「ホサナ。祝福あれ、主の御名によって来られる方に。イスラエルの王に。
ここで記載があるなつめ椰子の枝は、イスラエルの軍事的勝利を象徴しています。
これは、群衆が「イスラエルの王」と呼んだのは、政治的な意味だったことを示しています。
群衆は恐らく、イエスの奇跡で、敵であるローマ帝国を倒してくれると期待していたんじゃないかと思います。
群衆の期待を打ち砕くため、イエスは馬ではなくロバに乗られました。
イエスはここでこうも言っています「私はイスラエルをローマから解放するために地上の王として来たのではなく、すべての国民を罪から救うために天の王として来た。」
ナポレオンはその生涯の終わりに、自分が築いた帝国について、このように興味深い考察をしました。

今日、人類の３分の１がイエス・キリストを信じています。
中国では毎週日曜日、ヨーロッパ全土よりも多くのクリスチャンが教会に足を運んでいます。
専門家は、中国が2030年までに、米国を抜いて世界最大のキリスト教の国になるかもしれない、と考えているほどです。
キリストへの信仰によって救われた全ての国の人々は、いつか永遠に唯一真の神との交わりを楽しむことができます。
その日まで、キリストは、今クリスチャンである全ての人が、全ての人に・全ての言語で、福音を伝えるよう命じています。
日本に住むクリスチャンは、イエスを信じない99％の人々に福音を伝える特権が与えられています。
私たちは自分が好きな物について熱く語ります
私にとっては娘たちのかわいい写真を見せることや、お気に入りのラーメン屋さんについて話すことです 。
では神についてはどうでしょうか。
唯一真である神は、全ての人の礼拝を受けるにふさわしい方です。
ジョン・パイパーは宣教について、このように言いました。「賛美礼拝が存在しないから、宣教が存在する」
As John Piper says, missions exists because worship doesn't.
イエスはどのような王でしょうか？全ての国の王です。
そして完全な忠誠を求める王でもあります。
23節。。すると、イエスは彼らに答えられた。「人の子が栄光を受ける時が来ました。まことに、まことに、あなたがたに言います。一粒の麦は地に落ちて死ななければ、一粒のままです。」
イエスは栄光を受ける時、と言いましたが、それは十字架に磔にされる時という意味です。
十字架の上で死ぬことは、一粒の麦が地に落ちて実を結ぶため、とイエスは言います。
一粒の麦が地に落ちなければ、新しい命が生まれません。
同時ように、イエスがここで死ななければ、誰も罪と死と地獄から救われることはありません。
イエスはこう言われました： 自分のいのちを愛する者はそれを失い、この世で自分のいのちを憎む者は、それを保って永遠のいのちに至ります。
イエスは、この世で私達が経験する神の良さを憎むべき、と言っているのではありません。
イエスが言っているのは「この世でのいのちを愛する」なら、永遠の死の危険がある、ということです。そして「この世のいのちを憎む」ことが、いのちを永遠に保つ唯一の方法です。
ですが、それは何を意味するのでしょうか？
この世のいのちを愛していた場合「人生を失う」危険があるか、どうすれば見分けられるんでしょうか？
「自分のいのちを愛すること」人とは、この世が全てであるかのように生きる人のことです。
この世を愛する人にとって、罪は普通のことに見え、義は奇妙に見えることと思います。
それは働きすぎることや、お金をため込むこと、ポルノを見ること、こういうことはとても「普通」に思えるはずです。
そして教会のために時間を費やし、犠牲的にお金を捧げ、性的に純粋な生活を送ることは、とても「奇妙」に見えるはずです。
この世を愛する人の目的は、快適さと幸福だけです。
彼らは良い学校に入るために一生懸命に働きます。そうすれば、自分たちも良い仕事に就き、良いものを買い、子供を良い学校に通わせることができる。そしてその繰り返しです。
私たちは皆、心の奥底では、これ以上のものがあると気づいているのではないでしょうか？
ショックを受けるかもしれませんが、イエスは私達にもっと良いものを示してくれています。それは：「この世でのいのちを憎むこと」です。
それはどのように生きる事でしょうか？
「この世でいのちを憎む」人は、キリストへの信仰によって、この世への魅力や誘惑を日々殺しています。
この世に対して死んだ人は、偶像である自身への愛と慰めを日々悔い改めます。
こういう人は自分の良い行いに信頼を置かず、イエスの完全なる義に信頼を置きます。
彼らの希望は、堕落したこの世には無く、神の国にあります。
イエスが彼らの人生の主です。つまり、イエスが求めることで、彼らがしたくないことは何もないということです。
まとめると、これは"自分のいのちを愛する者はそれを失う "人は、自分のことばかりに集中します。
そして、"自分のいのちを憎む者は、それを保ち永遠のいのちに至る"人は、キリストに集中します。
あなたはどちらですか？

運転中に妻からガソリンを入れるよう言われても、この機能を使えば目的地を変えずに途中で寄ることができます。
皆さんの中にも、同じようにイエスに従っている人がいます。
皆さんには人生の計画があって、イエスはまるで助手席から「祈りなさい」「教会に行きなさい」と声をかける、邪魔な存在のように感じている。
でも、イエスに従うとは、途中でいくつか寄り道をすることではありません。
それはイエスに鍵を渡して、こう言うことです：「あなたが行けと言う場所へ行きます。あなたが選ぶ道を行きます。あなたがそこにいてくれるなら、それがどんな意味を持っていても、私は満足です。」
もう一度読みます、イエスは25節でこう言われます： 自分のいのちを愛する者はそれを失い、この世で自分のいのちを憎む者は、それを保って永遠のいのちに至ります。
私達はこの2つから選ばなければなりません。
チョイス1：自分の思うままに生き、最後には失う人生。
又は、チョイス2：イエスに従いこの世にとって死んだ人生を歩み、永遠のいのちに至る人生。
イエスは、私達を愛してくださっているからこそ、この現実に目を覚まさせようとしてくれています。
そしてイエスは、今始まり永遠に続く、真に豊かな人生を無償の贈り物として与えてくださいます。
そのいのちを受け取るためには、ただイエスに従うだけでいいのです。
26節...わたしに仕えるというのなら、その人はわたしについて来なさい。わたしがいるところに、わたしに仕える者もいることになります。わたしに仕えるなら、父はその人を重んじてくださいます。
26節で、イエスについて行くと2つの事を経験すると言っています。
評価を受け取る方として一番重要である父なる神から、名誉と承認を受け取ります。
そして、イエスと共に行くことによって、イエスの臨在の中で満足と喜びを経験します。
キリスト教は仏教のように、自分の欲を否定することによって救われるのではありません。
キリスト教は、キリストを信じる信仰を通した恵みによって救いを与えられ、自分達の求める物を罪からイエスご自身へと軌道修正するものです。
クリスチャンが人生において良いものを愛していないのではなく、一番にキリストを愛しています。
イエスはどのような王でしょうか？すべての国の王であり、完全な忠誠を求める王です。
それはもしかしたら意外な答えかもしれません：イエスは十字架によって支配を確立された王であるです。
キリストの十字架は人類の歴史で最も大切な出来事です。
それはなぜでしょうか？
31節：今、この世に対するさばきが行われ、今、この世を支配する者が追い出されます。わたしが地上から上げられるとき、わたしはすべての人を自分のもとに引き寄せます。」これは、ご自分がどのような死に方で死ぬことになるかを示して、言われたのである。
イエスは、十字架での死が3つのことを成し遂げたと語っています。
一つ目、この世は十字架によって裁かれたました。
十字架を見る時、人間のq２悪さ、そしてその深さを見ることができます。
私たちはそれほどまでに罪深い存在であり、私たちの救いを成し遂げるためには、神の子の死以外に方法がありませんでした。
神は、罪への怒りを十字架の上にいるイエスに注がれました。
イエスは罪人のために支払われた代価であり、誰でも罪を悔い改め、イエスを信じる者は、罪と死と地獄から救われます。
ヨハネ3章:18節：御子（イエス）を信じる者はさばかれない。信じない者はすでにさばかれている。神のひとり子の名を信じなかったからである。
イエスが神への唯一の道です。
他のすべての道は、地獄へと導きます。
ですので、もし今日、ここにいる方でクリスチャンでないなら、イエスを信じて、罪の赦しと神と共に生きる永遠のいのちを受け取ってください。
二つ目に、サタンは十字架によって打ち砕かれました。
イエスが「この世の支配者」と言う時、それはサタン、又は悪魔のことを指しています。
聖書は、サタンとその悪魔の軍団が、戦争や人種差別、虐待等、この世の悪の後ろで働いていると教えています。
何よりも、サタンはノンクリスチャンがイエスを信じないように働いています。
しかし、イエスの十字架は悪魔の敗北を保証しました。
第一ヨハネ3章8節にはこう書かれています。「その悪魔のわざを打ち破るために、神の御子が現れました。」
三つ目に、十字架のゆえに、世界中の人々がキリストに引き寄せられます。
イエスは32節で「すべての人」をご自身のもとに引き寄せる、と言っていますが、すべての人が救われるとは言っていません。
イエスはあらゆる種類の人々イエスを信じて救われると言っているのです。
27節では、イエスは神の裁きに直面する時「心は騒いでいる」と言っています。
なぜイエスは、この恐ろしい運命を避けようとしなかったのでしょうか？
イエスは神でもある方なので、ご自分の運命を完全にコントロールされていました。
それでは、なぜイエスが十字架に留まり続けたのでしょうか？
苦しみの向こう側で、愛する人々が救われることを知っていたからです。
苦しみと死によって、愛する人々が救われることを知っていたからです。
イエスのような愛を与えてくれるものは、この世には他に何もありません。
ですが、キリストの十字架を見る時、この世の他にはないイエスのために生きる理由が見えてきます。

Did you know that in North Korea, it’s illegal to be a Christian or even own a Bible?
Believe it or not, there was once a time when Christianity flourished in North Korea.
After the 1907 Pyongyang Revival, Korea went from less than 1% Christian to 29% Christian in just a few decades.
A pastor named Sohn Yahng-Won was a key figure in the rise of Christianity in Korea.
Pastor Sohn’s two oldest sons were known by their classmates as devout Christians, and were preparing to attend college in America.
However, as the Korean Civil War was starting to break out, the two sons were captured by a mob of communist students.
The two boys preached the gospel to their captors and urged them to believe in Jesus.
They were both ultimately shot and killed for refusing to renounce their faith.
The Korean government eventually put down the revolt, and the communist student who killed the boys was sentenced to execution.
What happened next shocked the nation of Korea.
Pastor Sohn not only asked that the boy who killed his two sons be spared from execution, but he offered to adopt the murderer of his sons as his very own son.
Listen to what Pastor Sohn prayed at his son’s funeral.
My God, I thank you for the martyrdom of my sons, who were shot to death while they were preaching the gospel. I thank you, for my heart is at peace as my sons, who had been preparing to go and study in America, are now in a place that is much better than America. My Father God, I thank you, for there will now be countless more sons of heaven through the fruit of the martyrdom of my sons.
Just a couple years after his sons’ funeral, in 1949, Pastor Sohn himself was killed for his faith by the communists.
How could this pastor thank God for his son's martyrdom?
And why did the pastor’s two sons choose death over renouncing their faith in Jesus?
We find the answer to these questions in our text for this morning, John 12.
In John 12, Jesus enters Jerusalem riding a donkey, welcomed by large crowds.
Many in the crowd believed Jesus was the long-awaited Messiah, the King of Israel prophesied about for hundreds of years in the Old Testament.
Jesus was the King they waited for, but not the King they expected.
Our main point for this morning is: We find true life when we die to this world and live for King Jesus.
Pastor Sohn and his two sons were living for Jesus, and this morning, I want to convince you to do the same.
But what kind of king is Jesus? Why should you live for him?
Let’s explore three answers to that question in John 12.
First, Jesus is a king for all nations (12-22).
Starting in v12, John writes: the next day, the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!”
The palm branches the crowds waved symbolized military victory for Israel.
This tells us that when the crowds called Jesus 'King of Israel,' they meant it politically.
They probably hoped that Jesus would overthrow their enemies, the Roman Empire.
To shatter their expectations, Jesus rode in on a donkey, not a warhorse.
Jesus is saying, “I didn’t come as an earthly King to free Israel from Rome; I came as a heavenly King to save all nations from their sin.”
Near the end of his life, Napoleon made an interesting reflection.
He said: “Alexander, Caesar, Charlemagne and myself founded empires. But on what did we rest the creations of our genius? Upon sheer force. Jesus Christ alone founded his empire upon love, and at this hour, millions of men would die for him.”
Nearly 3 million people came to Jerusalem each year for Passover, including many non-Jewish worshipers.
All of these non-Jews seeking Jesus prompts the Jewish religious leaders to make a frustrated complaint in v19 that “the world has gone after [Jesus].”
This statement ended up being more accurate than they even realized; the world has indeed gone after Jesus.
Today, ⅓ of the human race claims to believe in Jesus Christ.
Every Sunday, more Christians go to church in China than in all of Europe.
Many experts believe that China is on track to surpass the US to become the world’s largest Christian country by 2030.
People saved by faith in Christ from every nation will one day enjoy fellowship with the One True God for all of eternity.
Until that day, Christ commands every Christian to take the gospel to every person and language.
Christians living in Japan, we have the unique privilege of preaching the gospel to the 99% of Japan who don’t believe in Jesus.
We talk about the things we love.
No one has to convince me to show you cute pictures of my daughters or tell you about my favorite ramen spot.
How much more so with God?
The One True God is worthy to receive the worship of all people.
As John Piper says, missions exists because worship doesn't.
What kind of king is Jesus? A king for all nations.
But he’s also a King that demands total allegiance.
Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”
When Jesus says it's time for him to be glorified, he means it's time for him to be crucified.
Jesus says his death on the cross will be a grain of wheat falling into the ground that it might bear fruit.
If the grain of wheat doesn’t die, no new life comes.
and in the same way, if Jesus doesn’t die, no one will be saved from sin, death, and hell.
Jesus says: Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
Jesus isn’t saying we should hate the goodness of God that we experience in this physical world.
But what Jesus is saying is you risk eternal death if you “love your life in this world,” and the only way to keep your life for eternity is by “hating your life in this world.”
But what does that even mean?
How can I tell if I’m in danger of “losing my life” because I love it?
People who “love their lives in this world” live as if this world is all there is.
For those who are in love with this present world, sin looks normal, and righteousness looks strange.
It seems “normal” to overwork, hoard money, and watch pornography.
And it seems “strange” to spend time with the church, give money sacrificially, and live a sexually pure life.
For those who love the world, life's only purpose is comfort and happiness.
They’re working hard to get into a good school so they can get a good job, buy nice things, and send their kids to good schools…and the cycle repeats.
I think deep down we all know there’s more to life than this, right?
Jesus offers us a better way, which he describes in shocking language: “hating your life in this world.”
Here’s what it looks like to live that way.
People who “hate their lives in this world”, through faith in Christ, are dying daily to the temptations and attractions of this world.
Those who have died to the world are people who repent every day of the idolatrous love of self and comfort.
Their trust is in Jesus’ perfect righteousness, not in their own good works.
Their hope is in the Kingdom of God, not the present fallen world.
Jesus is the Lord of their lives. That means there is nothing Jesus could ask of them that they would be unwilling to do.
In sum, the person who “loves their life and loses it” focuses exclusively on themselves.
The person who “hates their life and keeps it for eternal life” focuses exclusively on Christ.
Which one are you?
Have you ever used the "search along route" feature in Google Maps?
I'll be driving somewhere and my wife will remind me we need to stop for gas — with that feature, I can stop without changing my destination.
Some of you are treating following Jesus the same way.
You have an agenda for your life, and Jesus feels like an interruption — like someone in the passenger seat reminding you to stop and pray or go to church.
But following Jesus isn't making a few stops along the way.
It's handing Jesus the keys and saying: "I'm going wherever you tell me, taking whichever route you choose, and I'm content with whatever that means as long as you're there with me."
Again, Jesus says in verse 25: Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
There’s only two choices.
Choice #1: Hang on to doing life your own way and then you lose your life for eternity.
Or, Choice #2: Die to this world by following Jesus and keep your life for all of eternity.
Jesus loves us enough to try to wake us up to reality.
Jesus offers true, abundant life as a free gift that begins now and continues for eternity
To receive that life, all you have to do is follow Jesus.
Verse 26…If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
Jesus says in v26 you follow him, you will experience these two benefits.
You will receive honor and approval from the only one whose opinion of you truly matters: God the Father.
And you will be where Jesus is, experiencing the all-satisfying delight of his presence.
Christianity is not Buddhism; it’s not salvation through denying our desires.
Christianity is salvation by grace through faith in Christ, and we redirect our desires away from sin to Jesus.
It’s not that Christians love the good things in our lives less; it’s that we love Christ most.
What kind of King is Jesus? A King for all nations and a King that demands total allegiance.
Now, let's explore the most surprising answer: Jesus is a King whose reign is established through the cross.
The cross of Christ is the single most important event in human history.
Why?
Verse 31… Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die.
Jesus tells us his death on the cross accomplished three things:
First, the world was judged by the cross.
When we look at the cross, we see the depths of man’s wickedness.
We are so depraved that it took nothing less than the death of the Son of God to accomplish our salvation.
On the cross, God poured out his righteous wrath against sin onto Jesus.
Jesus was punished in the place of sinners so that anyone who repents of their sin and believes in him will be saved from sin, death, and hell.
John 3:18 says: whoever believes in him [Jesus] is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
Jesus is the only way to God.
Every other path will lead you to hell.
So, if you’re here this morning and you’re not a Christian, we implore you to believe in Jesus and receive forgiveness for your sins and eternal life with God.
Second, Satan was defeated through the cross.
When Jesus says “the ruler of this world,” he’s talking about Satan or the Devil.
The Bible teaches that Satan and his legions of demons are actively at work behind all the human evils of the world, such as war, racism, and abuse.
Above all, Satan is interested in preventing non-Christians from believing in Jesus.
But the cross guaranteed the devil's defeat.
1 John 3:8 says, “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.”
Third, the nations will be drawn to Christ because of the cross.
When Jesus says “all people” will be drawn to him in v32, he’s not saying everyone will be saved.
Jesus is saying all kinds of people will believe in him and be saved.
In verse 27, Jesus says his “soul [was] troubled” by the prospect of facing God’s judgment against sin.
So why didn’t Jesus want to avoid such a terrible fate?
Jesus is God, so he was in complete control of his destiny.
So why did Jesus stay on the cross?
Because he knew that on the other side of his suffering, the people he loves would be saved.
Because he knew his suffering and death would save the people he loves.
Nothing in the world offers you the kind of love that Jesus does.
But when you look at the cross of Christ, you see the ultimate reason why you should live for Jesus rather than anything else in this world.
